The idea of the European Task Group for Endocrine Cancers (ETEC), was initiated in 2014 as a platform of close cooperation between endocrinologists and oncologists dealing with cancer of endocrine glands. Its idea was raised during the Endocrine Cancer Workshop “Endocrinology Meets Cancer” which took place on May 2-3, 2014 in Maria Skłodowska-Curie Memorial Cancer Center and Institute of Oncology, Gliwice Branch, Gliwice, Poland http://www.io.gliwice.pl/ . This educational event was held as a satellite meeting to the 16th European Congress of Endocrinology. The Workshop was organized under the auspices of the Clinical Committee of the European Society of Endocrinology, in close cooperation with the European Thyroid Cancer Research Network (ETA-CRN), the European Network for the Study of Adrenal Tumors (ENSAT) and the European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS).
ESE Clinical Committee approved goals and funding of ETEC in 2015 but delineated 2 year time perspective which will expire in 2017.
It was agreed to organize ETEC Meetings every two years at the European Congresses of Endocrinology. First ETEC Meeting took place in Munich on May 28th 2016 and was devoted to Endocrine cancers and endocrine oncology.
